Percentage Increase Calculator

Increase a number by a percentage. Useful for price rises, salary hikes, markups, and anything that grows by a set percentage.

How it is calculated

The percentage is applied to the original value to find the amount of the increase.

That amount is added back to the original value.

An increase of 100% doubles the number; an increase of 50% multiplies it by 1.5.

Formula

Increase amount: Value × Percent ÷ 100

Result: Value + Increase

Worked example

A product priced at ₹200 goes up by 15%.

Original price: ₹200

Increase: 15%

Find the increase: 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30

Add it to the original: 200 + 30 = 230

Answer: ₹230 (an increase of ₹30)

Frequently asked questions

How do I reverse a percentage increase?

Divide by (1 + percent/100) — do not just subtract the same percentage. A price that rose 15% to ₹230 was originally 230 ÷ 1.15 = ₹200. Subtracting 15% from ₹230 would wrongly give ₹195.50.

What is a 100% increase?

It means doubling. The value goes up by an amount equal to itself, so 200 becomes 400.

How do I apply two increases one after the other?

Multiply them, instead of adding them. Two 10% increases in a row give 1.10 × 1.10 = 1.21, which is a 21% increase overall, not 20%.
