Find your monthly LPG cooking gas cost.
The cylinder's total price is converted to a per-kilogram rate, then applied to your estimated monthly usage.
Price per kg: Cylinder price ÷ cylinder weight
Monthly cost: Price per kg × monthly usage
The LPG cost calculator works out your monthly spend on cooking gas. It converts the cylinder price into a price per kilogram by dividing by the cylinder's gas weight, then multiplies by how many kilograms you use in a month. The standard domestic cylinder in India holds 14.2 kg of gas.
Families usually think of LPG in terms of 'one cylinder lasts about six weeks'. Turning that into a monthly rupee figure helps with household budgeting, lets you compare LPG with induction or piped natural gas on a like-for-like basis, and shows the effect of a price revision. It is also handy for small eateries, hostels and PGs that need to cost their cooking fuel per month.
1. Note the price you pay for a refill, including delivery.
2. Note the net gas weight of the cylinder, usually 14.2 kg for domestic or 5 kg for small cylinders.
3. Price per kg = Cylinder price ÷ Cylinder weight.
4. Estimate monthly usage: cylinder weight ÷ days a cylinder lasts × 30.
5. Monthly cost = Price per kg × Monthly usage in kg.
6. If you receive a subsidy in your bank account, subtract it from the cylinder price to get your effective cost.
Cylinders come in different sizes, such as 14.2 kg and 5 kg for homes and 19 kg for commercial use, and each has its own price. Converting to price per kg puts them on a common footing and makes the monthly figure independent of which cylinder you buy. It also makes the calculation reusable: once you know your monthly kilograms, a price change only changes one number. The cylinder's tare weight, the empty steel shell, is not part of the gas you pay for.
The easiest way is to note how many days a full cylinder lasts. If a 14.2 kg cylinder lasts 60 days, you use about 0.24 kg a day, or around 7 kg a month. For a direct measurement, weigh the cylinder on a luggage scale when new and again after a week, and subtract. Usage rises with household size, pressure cooking versus open boiling, and how often you make tea, rotis or fried snacks.
For eligible households, the government's LPG subsidy is credited to the bank account after purchase rather than taken off the bill, so you pay the full market price at delivery. The amount and eligibility are set by the government and can change. To see your real cost, enter the price minus any subsidy you actually receive. Commercial cylinders carry no domestic subsidy and are priced differently.
